Fees from Upwork's and Fiverr's own help and pricing pages, checked October 19, 2026 (sources below). Upwork's fee is 0–15% per contract and shown before you bid; the client fee shown is the Basic plan. Timing is the longest wait if the client doesn't act early: Fiverr's 3-day review plus clearance, Upwork's 14-day fixed-price review plus a 5-day hold. Withdrawal fees vary by method, so they say See site.

What Upwork and Fiverr each take

Fiverr leaves you 80% of every order. Upwork's fee runs from 0% to 15% per contract, and it shows you the exact figure before you bid. Both also charge the client on top of your price. Here is each charge, with the platform's own page.

Worked example: a $1,000 website

A five-page website for a made-up client, priced at $1,000. On Fiverr you keep $800 and the client pays $1,055. On Upwork at a 10% fee you keep $900; at 15%, $850; at 0%, the full $1,000. The client pays $1,050 on Upwork's Basic plan, plus a one-time fee of $0.99 to $14.99.

Bidding changes the Upwork number. If it took ten proposals at a made-up 8 Connects each to win this job, that's 80 Connects, or $12, so the 10% case leaves $888. To keep $1,000 after the cut, list the job at $1,250 on Fiverr ($1,000 ÷ 0.8) and at $1,111.12 on Upwork at a 10% fee ($1,000 ÷ 0.9). Fiverr sells a package the client picks; Upwork sells a proposal you send for one client's brief.

Clients who find you directly, from your own site or a referral, have no platform cut. For those, see contract and invoice software for freelancers. Clients you meet on Upwork or Fiverr stay on those platforms: Upwork has a conversion process for moving a contract off-platform, and on Fiverr all messages after an order go through the Fiverr inbox.

Upwork vs Fiverr fee FAQ

How much does Fiverr take from freelancers?

20%. Fiverr says freelancers receive 80% of the client's cleared payment, so a $1,000 order leaves you $800. The client also pays a 5.5% service fee on top, plus $3.50 on orders under $200.

How much does Upwork take from freelancers?

Between 0% and 15% per contract. Upwork shows you the exact percentage when a client sends an offer or when you submit a proposal, and the fee stays fixed once the contract begins. Bidding also costs Connects, at $0.15 each.

Which leaves a freelancer more, Upwork or Fiverr?

On fees alone, Upwork leaves more, because its fee tops out at 15% against Fiverr's 20%: at a 10% fee, a $1,000 job leaves $900 against Fiverr's $800. The Connects you spend winning the job can close that gap. Fees don't decide which platform wins you more work, so compare how you get clients on each too.

When do you get paid on Upwork and on Fiverr?

On Fiverr, the money is available 14 days after the order completes (7 for Seller Plus, Top Rated and Pro), and the client has 3 days to act on a delivery. On an Upwork fixed-price contract, the client has 14 days to approve, then a 5-day security hold applies. Upwork hourly work is paid, in most cases, 10 days after the weekly billing period ends.

Can I move an Upwork or Fiverr client off the platform to avoid the fee?

Not without the platform's process. Upwork has a zero-tolerance circumvention policy unless a conversion fee is paid, and on Fiverr all communication after an order goes through the Fiverr inbox. Price the platform's cut into your quote instead; this calculator shows the price to list.

Why does the calculator say See site for withdrawal fees?

We only show fees verified on each platform's own pages. Withdrawal fees depend on the payout method and Upwork's conversion fee amount isn't on the page we checked, so those cells say See site instead of a number we can't back up.
