First page of the website scope of work template: a "Scope of Work: Website for [Client business name]" header with prepared for, prepared by, date and attached-to lines, then the goal section and a numbered list of pages under deliverables.

What is inside the template

8 sections, in the order a client reads them, each with short guidance you delete before sending.

  1. Goal

Two or three sentences on what the site is for, who it is for and one outcome you can check.

  2. Deliverables

Every page and feature by name, so a stranger could count them, and a line that anything unlisted is a change request.

  3. Acceptance criteria

The checks that must pass before the work is finished, plus a review window for the client’s answer.

  4. Assumptions

What you are counting on, such as content arriving on time and one person approving.

  5. Not included

Copywriting, photos, hosting fees, support after launch and anything else outside the scope, named up front.

  6. What we need from the client

A dated list of the client’s side: copy, logo, photos, access and consolidated feedback.

  7. Timeline

Each step with who owns it and a target date, from content due to launch.

  8. Changes and sign-off

How extra pages or rounds get a written quote first, and a signature or typed name to agree the scope.

Plus a filled-in example

The same scope completed for a fictional dental practice: six named pages on Webflow, a booking request form, three acceptance checks, a 5-day review window, two feedback rounds and a dated timeline to launch.

How to use it

  1. Download the PDF to read it, or the Word file to edit it. The Word file also opens in Google Docs and Pages.
  2. Name every page and feature in section 2, and delete anything you are not delivering.
  3. Write acceptance checks you could test, and date the client’s side as well as yours.
  4. Attach it to your proposal or contract and get it signed before work starts.

Sending lots of these? Workspace369 Proposals turn your scope into a link your client accepts with a typed name and pays the deposit on. See Workspace369 Proposals. Our #1 pick is Workspace369.

Questions about the template

Is the website scope of work template free?

Yes. Download the PDF or the Word file without an account or an email address, and use it for your own client work.

What is the difference between a proposal and a scope of work?

A proposal sells the project: options, prices and why you. A scope of work defines it: exactly what gets delivered, how it is accepted and what is not included. Many designers attach the scope to the proposal or paste it in as the scope section.

What are acceptance criteria in a website project?

A short list of checks that must be true before the work counts as finished, such as every page being live, the contact form reaching the client’s inbox and pages displaying correctly on the browsers you name.

Is this template legal advice?

No. It is general information. Whether a scope of work forms part of your contract depends on where you work, so have acceptance, ownership and payment wording checked by someone qualified.
