How much does processing cost at different payment amounts?

ACH processing costs less than the paired card method at every payment size modeled here, before add-ons and operational differences. Each asterisk is a Workspace369 calculation, not a reported industry average.

What percentage of the payment goes to processing fees?

Fixed card charges increase the effective rate on smaller payments, while capped ACH fees reduce the effective rate as payment size grows.

Effective rate = rounded modeled processing fee ÷ payment amount × 100. This is not a survey of merchant effective rates or an all-in cost comparison.

Does this comparison include every payment-related cost?

No. It isolates published standard processing charges; subscription and invoice-product charges, verification, disputes, returns, currency conversion, international cards, tax and custom contracts are outside the model.

Payment methods also differ in authorization, settlement timing and reversal risk. A lower processing fee alone does not establish the best payment method for a business.

How this report was built

Methodology and limitations

  1. We read each provider’s original U.S. pricing page on September 12, 2026 and selected the exact product and plan named in the input table. Prices can change; check the source before purchasing or charging a client.
  2. Scenario fees apply the percentage rate plus any listed fixed fee, then the stated minimum or cap, and round to cents. Effective rates use the rounded fee. Monthly calculator totals multiply that per-payment fee by the user’s count of equally sized payments.
  3. Unlisted minima, fixed charges or caps are not invented. The model treats a missing fixed charge as zero and applies no unlisted cap or minimum; the table labels these as not listed rather than source-reported zeros.
  4. This is an original, reproducible Workspace369 comparison based on provider inputs, not a payment-industry survey. The number of modeled examples is not a sample size.

What these numbers cannot tell you

  • Published list prices may differ from an account’s actual contract, eligibility or available methods. No provider recommendation or expected business saving is claimed.
  • Stripe Invoicing fees and optional instant bank verification are not part of the Stripe Payments processing figures. Square paid plans and API prices are excluded. PayPal Checkout and Pay Later are excluded.
  • The calculator accepts payments from USD 1 to USD 1,000,000 for arithmetic illustration, not as a statement of processor transaction limits. All payments are assumed successful, domestic and in USD.
